R15 — Toughened Structural Epoxy Adhesive Paste

High-strength, toughened epoxy adhesive formulated for structural bonding of metals, particularly aluminium and steel.

TECHNIGLUE® R15 is a two-component, solvent-free, thixotropic epoxy adhesive formulated for high-strength structural bonding, particularly of aluminium and steel.

Developed to improve peel strength at the metal–resin interface, R15 helps address a common failure mechanism in bonded metal assemblies while maintaining high tensile and compressive strength.

The system offers excellent adhesion to conventional engineering substrates, including metals and composites, together with high chemical resistance.

R15 cures at room temperature with compatible H15 hardeners. For applications requiring extended working times, alternative resin and hardener combinations are available to accommodate larger assemblies and elevated ambient temperatures.

Structural Bonding Performance

TECHNIGLUE® R15 is specifically formulated to improve peel strength in bonded metal assemblies, particularly where aluminium and steel substrates are used.

The system provides high-strength structural adhesion with excellent chemical resistance. Its toughened epoxy formulation improves resistance to peel failure at the metal–resin interface without significantly compromising other adhesive properties.

Independent substrate preparation remains critical to bond performance. Engineering test data demonstrates the influence of surface preparation on tensile lap-shear strength, with improved results achieved through abrasion.

KEY PERFOMANCE FEATURES

How Does TECHNIGLUE® R15 Improve Metal Bonding?

Structural adhesive joints involving metals can be subjected to tensile, shear and peel stresses. Peel stresses can contribute to failure at the adhesive–substrate interface.

TECHNIGLUE® R15 is formulated to improve peel strength at the metal–resin interface, particularly when bonding aluminium and steel.

Its toughened epoxy chemistry provides high-strength structural adhesion while maintaining good tensile and compressive properties.

For optimum bond performance, substrates must be properly prepared to remove contamination and provide a suitable surface for adhesive wetting.

Typical Applications

TECHNIGLUE® R15 is designed for structural adhesive applications requiring high-strength bonding of metals, particularly aluminium and steel. Its formulation is suited to bonded assemblies where improved peel resistance is an important consideration.

  • Structural aluminium bonding
  • Steel-to-steel adhesive bonding
  • Metal-to-composite assemblies
  • Carbon fibre and metal bonding
  • Marine structural fabrication
  • Industrial structural assemblies

TECHNIGLUE® R15 FAQs

What is TECHNIGLUE® R15 designed for?

TECHNIGLUE® R15 is a toughened structural epoxy adhesive specifically formulated for high-strength bonding of metals, particularly aluminium and steel. Its formulation improves peel strength at the metal–resin interface.

Yes. R15 is specifically formulated for aluminium and steel bonding. Engineering test data reports tensile lap-shear strengths of 26 MPa on prepared aluminium and 28 MPa on prepared mild steel under the stated test conditions.

R15 is available with Standard and Slow H15 hardeners. For extended working time, R15EXPT can be used with H15 Super Slow. Pot life ranges from 35 to 180 minutes at 25°C, depending on the system.

TECHNIGLUE® R15 is best suited to metal-first structural bonding applications, particularly where aluminium or steel must be bonded with improved resistance to peel stress and interface-related bond failure

Yes. Bonding surfaces must be clean and free from grease and loose particles. A uniformly roughened, matt surface is recommended to promote adhesive wetting and maximise bond strength.
