Duratec® Grey EZ Sanding Primer – 707-061

High-Build, Low-Porosity Polyester Primer for Plug & Pattern Surfacing

Duratec® Grey EZ Sanding Primer 707-061 is a high-performance polyester surfacing primer designed to deliver exceptional filling, levelling and sanding characteristics for composite plugs, patterns, tooling models and FRP surfaces. Engineered to spray cleanly and cure rapidly, this primer builds quickly to eliminate surface defects and create a smooth, uniform, low-porosity finish ready for polishing or topcoating.

With outstanding handling and post-cure workability, Duratec EZ Sanding Primer significantly reduces sanding time—often by 50% compared to traditional primers—while providing excellent adhesion to epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester laminates, tooling board, MDF, plaster and more. Its rapid film-build capability and ease of application make it a preferred primer for professional composite fabricators seeking a reliable, production-efficient surfacing system.

Key Features

Exceptional Sandability

Formulated for extremely easy sanding, enabling faster progression to a smooth, polishable surface with minimal labour.

Produces a dense, uniform surface that reduces pinholes, porosity and preparation time before topcoating.

Builds up to 40 mils, allowing efficient elimination of surface defects, waviness and tool-path marks.

Sprays smoothly from HVLP guns with excellent flow and atomisation, reducing overspray and defects.

Minimises sandpaper use and sanding hours, reducing overall finishing costs and improving throughput.

Bonds to epoxy laminates, polyester and vinyl ester fiberglass, MDF, tooling board, plaster, clay, and other non-metal surfaces.

Heat distortion temperature of 180°F (83°C), suitable for tooling and pattern work exposed to elevated processing temperatures.

Why Choose Duratec® Primers?

Exceptional Surface Quality

Formulated to eliminate pinholes, porosity and print-through, Duratec primers build rapidly to deliver a fair, high-density surface ready for sanding and finishing.

High-solids, easy-to-sand formulations reduce labour time while delivering consistent results—ideal for commercial production environments.

Originally developed for high-performance marine applications, Duratec primers now support a wide range of industries requiring accuracy, stability, and long-term durability.

Suitable for polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy laminates, FRP moulds, plug construction, composite tooling, and repair substrates.
